THE MODALITIES
EMDR & Brainspotting
EMDR uses guided eye movements to help reprocess traumatic memories stored in the brain. By focusing on these memories while engaging in bilateral stimulation, clients can reduce the emotional charge and rewire how they react to the past. EMDR helps to break the cycle of emotional distress, allowing clients to move forward with a greater sense of ease and resilience.
Brainspotting, on the other hand, uses a more body-centered approach, locating specific "brainspots" related to unresolved trauma stored in the brain and body. By maintaining a fixed gaze on these spots, clients access and release deep-seated emotions and physical sensations, promoting a sense of calm, clarity, and self-connection.
Both EMDR and Brainspotting work with the body’s innate ability to heal itself. They are especially effective in an intensive format, as the condensed and focused environment helps clients process deeply and experience accelerated relief that would typically take months or years in traditional therapy.
An Important Note: EMDR & Brainspotting are not just for trauma; they are also used for performance enhancement to excel in areas such as athletics, business, and relationships.

Frequently asked questions

While the traditional weekly therapy session is great and most things can be worked through before the end of the 50-minute session, EMDR and Brainspotting are a tad different. From my experience, it can feel frustrating or disruptive to stop in the middle of amazing breakthroughs simply because you ran out of time. It can be hard to get back to where you were the following week, possibly just to have it happen all over again. Intensives allow for extended time and the opportunity to progress through treatment targets and symptoms in a more succinct and focused way.

Yes. You are welcome to stay with your primary therapist while doing intensives with me, as on-going therapy may still be needed. Perhaps you have a felt sense that something profound has yet to change, but you’re not quite sure how to shift all the way into a new experience of yourself with your current therapist. Maybe you cognitively understand new things, yet your body is still confused, so you’re curious about how EMDR & Brainspotting Intensives can help. We will identify what format is best for you during your initial consultation.

A half-day intensive offers a multitude of resources and can help to either increase performance and confidence, or significantly decrease the devastating effects of single event trauma (e.g. negative cognitions, disturbing emotions and body sensations). While significant healing can occur in one half-day intensive, Complex PTSD deserves more treatment than one half-day intensive. Many of my clients experiencing Complex PTSD may continue to work on their trauma histories through monthly, bi-monthly, or quarterly half-day intensives.

Participating in a 3-day (weekday) EMDR and/or Brainspotting Intensive may create impactful change more efficiently than just weekly, 50-minute sessions or even one half-day intensive. We will identify what format is best for you during your intake assessment.

Possibly. Many insurance companies reimburse a significant portion of the cost of psychotherapy. For insurance purposes, I am considered an out-of-network provider. It's best to determine the exact details of your policy ahead of time, including what benefits are available regarding out-of-network providers and if your insurance will reimburse several hours of therapy in one day or one week. I will provide you with a Superbill for all direct contact therapy services included in the program.
